On February 24, 2025, veteran actor Rajinikanth paid homage to the late former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J. Jayalalithaa, on her 77th birth anniversary. The tribute took place at Jayalalithaa’s residence, Veda Nilayam, located in Chennai’s Poes Garden.

Reflecting on his visits to Veda Nilayam, Rajinikanth shared, “This is my fourth visit to Veda Nilayam. My first was in 1977 during a film project with her. Subsequent visits were to invite her to the inauguration of the Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam and to my daughter’s wedding. Today, I am here to honor her memory. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy endures in our hearts.”

The event was attended by Jayalalithaa’s niece, Deepa, her husband Madhavan, and AIADMK executive Pugazhenthi. They honored Rajinikanth by draping a shawl over him.

Across Tamil Nadu, AIADMK leaders and supporters commemorated the day by garlanding statues and busts of Jayalalithaa, organizing blood donation drives, and distributing welfare items such as mixers, grinders, sewing machines, and medical supplies.

Jayalalithaa, affectionately known as ‘Amma,’ was born on February 24, 1948. She served as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister multiple times and was renowned for her impactful social welfare programs, including the ‘Amma Canteens’ and initiatives supporting women and children. Her passing on December 5, 2016, marked the end of an era, but her influence continues to resonate throughout the state.

Rajinikanth’s tribute underscores the enduring respect and admiration for Jayalalithaa’s contributions to Tamil Nadu’s political and social landscape.
